CVS Group plc Drives Efficiency and Accuracy with BD Rowa Automation
“The robots project has demonstrated teams working well together, and I still get excited to see them in action on my visits to Diss! The accuracy and efficiency they provide to our Animed Direct customers is one of the reasons we installed them, along with being more than fully compliant from a regulatory point of view. It is a major investment, which I am sure will show a good payback over time.”
Sara Armitage | Group Procurement Director at CVS UK Ltd.
“A truly great collaboration with BD Rowa and our partners BeYondWMS. Teamwork is so vital in delivering projects, and this was a perfect example. There’s never a project without some hiccups, but we resolved it together, and the business is delighted with the end result. It’s a fantastic addition to our operation.”

THE CHALLENGE
Labor-Intensive Inventory Management: The existing warehouse management system (WMS) relies on manual checking and scanning of items, demanding high concentration and double-checking to ensure accuracy. This process was time-consuming and susceptible to human error.
Limited Scalability: Existing methods couldn’t keep pace with potential growth in order volume. Expanding the team or warehouse space would’ve been necessary to handle increased demand.
Compliance Management: Adhering to VMD (Veterinary Medicines Directorate) regulations for maintaining accurate and auditable data for prescription orders was paramount.
THE SOLUTION
BD Rowa Automation: The BD Rowa™ VMax solution automated the receipt and storage of all items. This captured product attributes and expiry dates, ensuring complete traceability and eliminating the need for manual checking.
Enhanced Integration: Integrating the BD Rowa™ VMax solution with the existing WMS created a seamless workflow. This boosted productivity by over 30%, with the potential for further scalability without additional staffing or space needs.
Streamlined Compliance: The system accommodated VMD requirements for accurate and auditable data management. Additionally, handling NFA (Non-Food Animal) products requiring SQP (Suitably Qualified Person) intervention was optimised, improving labour allocation.
KEY FACTS
Improved Accuracy: Automated processes minimised human error, leading to exceptional stock accuracy.
Increased Efficiency: Order fulfilment time was reduced, allowing receipt and dispatch within 24 hours of vet-approved prescriptions.
Enhanced Scalability: The automated system can handle significant order volume increases without requiring additional resources.
Stronger Compliance: VMD compliance was streamlined with accurate and auditable data readily available.
